Jay Lang

Active in many causes throughout his broadcast career, Jay Lang has a deeply rooted passion for helping those in need, uplifting spirits, encouraging others and opening doors for the less fortunate. He is President & CEO of Blue Pyramid Productions LLC, Smooth Jazz America Broadcasting, serves as Station Manager at Hampton University’s 88.1 WHOV, part time announcer at Howard University’s 96.3 WHUR, former host of Smooth Jazz 105.9’s Lights Out Washington and currently On Air Host of “Lights Out Hampton Roads” on 88.1 WHOV (www.whov.org).

From a broadcasting family, his father, Jimmy "The Gator" Lang was a Savannah, Georgia radio legend for 45 years and concert promoter for the legendary James Brown. Prior to coming to Hampton University’s WHOV as GM, he was a top-rated Air Personality at Washington, DC’s Smooth Jazz 105.9 and Program Director & Evening Personality at WJCD Smooth Jazz 105.3 in Norfolk, VA.


His career began in 1974 in his hometown of Savannah, Georgia. As Program & Music Director for 11 years, he engineered the success of WPLZ-Magic 99/Richmond. The earlier years included programming WENZ/Richmond, MD of WSOK/Savannah, GA and gracing the airwaves of WIGO/Atlanta.


In addition to working on air, he became entertainment editor for Night Moves Magazine, enjoyed a successful 4 year run from 1982-1986 as host and producer of Soundtrack, a weekly TV entertainment show on Richmond/WWBT 12, worked in a few films, produced records, put on dozens of concerts, and served as producer/host of Hampton Roads Weekend Magazine (a weekly one-hour public affairs program)."


Voice acting is another passion. For the past 29 years he has been and currently serves as an internationally known voice over talent with Studio Center Worldwide Audio in Va. Beach. His voice is heard on Popeyes Chicken TV & Radio ad campaigns, Time Life Music’s “The Soul Train DVD Collection”, "Body & Soul," "Wedding Songs", “Soul Fantasy Collection", "Body & Soul Of The 90's", “Body & Soul Of The 80’s”, “Midnight Soul Infomercial”, “Midnight Fire” & "Best of Peabo Bryson” TV commercials, the internet based Jazz Club Channel, CBN, NASA, Hardees, McDonald's, Comcast, MGM Grand Casino, Anheuser Busch, United Way, XM Satellite, KinderCare, Heineken, DC Lottery, Verizon Wireless, First Baptist Church Of Glenarden and The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute commercials as well as many others now airing worldwide throughout the United States, Europe, The Caribbean, Africa and England.


He serves on the Board of Directors at Visit Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia & the Hampton Coliseum Advisory Committe in Hampton. He was the Personal Manager for Ashley Nichole, Season 6 Actress from The Bad Girls Club on The Oxygen Network, served as a volunteer media coordinator with The Northern Virginia Chapter of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), is a member of The 100 Black Men of Greater Washington, DC, Inc and was the worldwide booking agent for the legendary80’sold school band The Blackbyrds.


A longtime passion of his is songwriting and exposing musical talent to the masses. he developed, greated & produces The Church Street Jazz Series at The Attucks Theater & The Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, was co-writer of Top 5 Smooth Jazz single "You Are Everything" for guitarist Ken Navarro & "Standing Tall" the title track on the CD Stand Tall for Smooth Jazz keyboardist Bob Baldwin. In 2012 he completed his first motivational book of inspirational life lessons called "Wisdom From The Jazzman" available worldwide. Reissue is planned for 2023.


Jay makes the reason for starting this foundation very clear stating, "All my life I have been blessed in so many ways to get to this point in my life's journey. It's time to pay it forward by being a blessing to others truly in need".
